Celebrity Makeup Twin and A-HA moment!!!

In the makeup world, its not uncommon to find or look for a makeup twin! What's a 'makeup twin'? Well, in a nutshell, its a celebrity that closely resembles your natural skintone/hair colour, eyecolour etc - someone that you can look up to when it comes to making makeup colour purchases and creating various makeup looks. I think that besides having a makeup twin, very often women also look for a Style twin or 'Icon' to look up to. Ideally, style is about creating a look that is unique to you - but we all like to look up to someone or go for an ultimate chic look that never goes out of style. Having a makeup/style go-to person is not about being someone you're not. In fact, it about looking up to a muse that already possesses what you know you like. This is something that I think we could all use to channel the best parts of ourselves. Its not about copying - its about inspiration!!! Time and Time again, people have pointed me towards 'Katie Holmes' as having similar look to mine. Strangely enough, most recently in an attempt to try the Bright Winter colour palette - many people have suggested, why not try the Summer palette again (I kept getting requests to try Soft Summer in particular). I love to experiment so I gladly started to test some Summer looks at home - I already know I'm not a pure cool season and I'm definitely not a light season. I then decided to try the Soft Summer again, but this time I tried 'Soft Summer Deep' - one thing that I've learned in this recent discovery is that many women who think they are autumns and even drapped as autumns are really 'Soft Summer Deep' colour types - When I started to read more and more about the season, I realized that my makeup muse Katie Holmes is a Soft Summer Deep. My jaw actually dropped because I really feel that my quest may be coming to an end, thanks to the inspiration of my Celebrity Makeup Twin and the help of many of the women on the Bright Winter Facebook Page who took the time to help me realize there was something aging about the Autumn on me and something not quite right about the bright seasons. This is not another 'Here she goes again' post - this is just another step in my colour journey that I'm excited to share!!!

I am more in the soft summer deep category and "yes" some of the colors have a touch of warmth or can crossover into the soft autumn category. To me your skin tone is a bit warmer than Katie Holmes or mine and I think my skin tone is a touch warmer than Katie's.

Dear Renata,

I think you have finally found your season! I have always viewed you as a kind of deep soft summer. In the new 4x4 seasonal color analysis, there is a new category included for your season, called toned summer, see e.g. Prettyyourworld website. Katie Holmes in this system is considered a soft winter, also a new category. The soft winter colors seem a bit too harsh on you, although not bad, but toned summer or soft summer deep looks perfect to me. Typical examples of toned summer types are Angelina Jolie and Sarah Hyland according to Prettyyourworld. Good luck playing around with the soft summer deep colors.

THank you so much Luna for your comment and feedback - since this last post, I can believe how wearing the Soft Summer Deep is changing my life - I'm 110% positive that this is perfect for me! When I go back and put on makeup from other seasons I see just how draining or overpowering they are - but it also makes me question - why didn't I see that before? How could I be so convinced of something that doesn't work? I'm definitely going to enjoy experimenting and creating SSum Deep looks - thank you again so much for your support and confirmation that i'm going in the right direction :)

You mentioned in an earlier post that you are almost 40. What do you do to hide your wrinkles? Also, you mentioned that Soft Summer Deep is changing your life, how is it changing your life?

Wow - now you are finally make it! I have so awaited this. I wrote and suggested earlier you to be a "velvety summer". It is Soft Summer Deep or Shaded Summer (not Toned Summer which is Soft Summer Light).

I think it might be hard to separate if someone is for example Soft Summer Deep, Cool Summer or Winter. There are also many photos of misanalysed celebrities or other people on the internet. So doing a color analysis is not a simple task...

My eye says that you`re a clear spring.
But it`s just another eye...

And that colors... did nothing for you. The feeling (subjective and very personal thing, I know) is: We (skin, hair, eyes) can do much, much more, but not half-buried here in this place.
really, I'm comparing with this: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-kI68guPy7Z0/TX5P7EvXgzI/AAAAAAAAAjk/ksgrVyWkSYg/s1600/DSCN5352.JPG
and this http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2C8R7imKqdQ/T7fSUadQi1I/AAAAAAAACm8/CrOxsVOQWZI/s1600/DSCN9168.JPG your hair is not cool, your eye is not cool and your skin is not cool!

Correction of my previous comment: soft summer deep is called shaded summer in the 4x4 seasonal color system, not toned summer which is soft summer light. Keep enjoying the soft summer deep colors, they look great!

@ Anonymous - thank you SO much! I honestly feel very blessed and feel that my skin is a direct reflection of my genetics - my grandmother and mother all have great skin and look much younger than their age. I also think that I'm very 'young at heart' and I feel this effects how you look physically too!!! for any wrinkles, just a plain concealer does the trick for me!

I agree with Giselle. Your skin tone is definitely on the warm end. I could never look good in the the warm colors you pull off so well. The soft summer deep does nothing for your coloring.

Dear Renata, your blog is really helpful. My color journey wasn´t easy. At first I figured out that light colors and bright colors are not good for me. Cool colors didn´t harmonize with my warmer skin. So I´ve made the same mistake as you did. I switch to warm colors and muted colors as well. Then I realized that it looks awful on me. Now I am absolutely sure that the problem is my natural color contrast - I have medium brown hair with warm highlites, really warm brown beauty marks, slightly warmer skin but darker soft blueish/grey/green eyes with small brown spot in one eye. So I have both cool and warm coloring - I decided to stick to mixed colors - purple = mixture of blue(cool) and red(warm)- especially flattering is plum and also blue green = blue with yellow makes green - shade called teal. Colors have to be darker, not too saturated and complex (warm+cool together). You look similar. Neon or bright colors wash you out. Too cool or too warm colours are not good either. I think you need darker (not too much), softer (not extra saturated) and just a little bit cooler colours. Could you consider wearing jewell tones - burgundy (deep soft cool version of red), teal, emerald green, plum, dark cool brown? It will make you look more alive. Make-up has to be softer because our eyes are softer and stronger make-up would make them disappear. My pinterest board could help you. Good luck!

Dear Renata and Jahoa, I was indecisive at first whether Renata is a soft winter or soft summer deep type. I did a simple copy paste exercise and compared Renata's photo to typical outfits (borrowed from Prettyyourworld) of each type. Both look good, but soft summer deep came out as a winner. I can send you the pictures if you want. Of course, this is not a real color analysis, but it gives you an idea of the right direction. You also look good with many soft autumn colors. That is because there is an overlap beween all these soft categories. But I definitely agree that you need soft, darker and neutral colors. Not too cool, not too warm. Best wishes. Luna

I agree... Soft summer Deep.
