A 'Softer' Deep Winter Look

I know I've been doing a lot of uber dramatic deep winter looks, so I decided to do a look that is still consistent with deep winter shades, but on the 'softer' side of the spectrum.  I wanted to do a softer burgundy-brownish/pink lip with a smudged out black liner.  I decided to use copperplate by MAC on my lid into the crease and then used smolder eyeliner and smudged it out with carbon eyeshadow (also MAC) before finishing with black mascara.  I mixed my two favourite blushes (Raizin and Fever by MAC) and then used MAC's Burgundy lipliner with NARS Pigalle lipstick on the lips - I think this look is very 'everyday workplace' friendly - its still comes across as 'Strong and Confident', but in a softer, more assured way - I think this may just become a classic everyday look for me - I can also see myself using Mahogany lipliner instead of burgundy with Pigalle and Raizin blush - I think this may be my next look - can't wait to try it!!!

Renata, I'm always amazed by how well you wear so many different seasonal palettes.

Are there any that don't suit you at all? Do you have a blooper reel, lol?

Awww Thanks so much Snezana! I just love experimenting and I love colour so much - perhaps thats why I have a hard time accepting one palette - I have an artists mind and I 'NEED' colour. Also, I think that discovering that I'm a 'neutral' season makes sense, neturals seem to be able to wear a greater variety of shades from the cool/warm spectrum. I just ordered Lora Alexanders colour swatch fan for 'toned' winter, which is deep winter soft - I feel that there is something to be said about this particular palette on me and I'm uber excited to embrace it - my next post will be a collage of the 'toned' winter shades - stay tuned!

Obviously you have a good eye for colour and are able to harmonize your own colouring (including hair tints) with signature colours from the palettes -- on top of being "a neutral."

Maybe the seasons were designed for those of us with less of an eye -- who can't see as clearly what doesn't work on them.

I think you can get away with some of the winter colours but the black drains you. I think you struggle to pull off the pink blush and muted plum lipstick. This is not your season to my mind. I think you are a striking bronzed Autumn, sitting between true and deep.

Nara Pigalle is a dark autumn color, and I think it looks great on you. I think you should try dark autumn!

Renata, I looked back over all your pictures as you have been on this journey, and altho I think you are for sure one of the 'neutrals' .. I can see why you are struggling. You can pull off so many looks and seasons so well! Many of them look equally great! I have much the same struggle as you. However, that said, when I looked back at the pics for the more intense autumn colours you look 'orange'. altho I prefer the warm to some , SOME of the cool makeup looks which look too Goth on you, other of the cool looks are my favorite on you. There is a blog post in 2012 , where you are wearing a black drape and you look wonderful! The black drape recedes and you POP. when you wear 'true' cool makeup colours but applied softly , subltly you shine. when you wear the really blue fuschia, and magenta colours to my mind they take over. In soft blush and softly applied true red lipcolour with true /pure not muted or blued colours you look amazing! I wonder if you could be a spring??? don't springs have the greatest ability to wear alot of colours and have the hardest time making a decision??? You are lovely so I hope none of this sounds like criticism, because you look beautiful in so many colours.
I have given up the struggle. Not one to quit anything, on this colour me a season journey, I have tossed in the towel. I can't decide and can't find anyone locally to do an anlysis, so I decided to let it go as it was consuming my life and I began to feel narcissistic about the whole thing.
Now if I get a compliment on how I look , not on the clothing, I make a little mental note... Also if someone says I look tired when I'm not , I also take note. It is becoming clear to me what season I am, without driving myself to distraction as I was before.
For me, I asked God to give me clarity and to take away the obsession. My journey, maybe it will help you somehow.. with kind thoughts for you...L

Thank you so much for writing - I really appreciate your feedback and advice - I have played around with bright spring in the past and do often return to this season - I know that I have an element of winter for sure - Actually, this makes me want to play around with BSrp a little more again, so thanks for the inspiration - Right now, I'm just having fun with colour in general! I'm labeling myself as a colour 'Nomad' - LOL

Hi Renata, me again. Today I went to a high end 'make up ' store in my local mall and as luck would have it, found a very knowledgeable young clerk who told me to pinch my finger, ( a trick she learned at finishing school!) and let s match to a blush. She said you are cool, but it would be difficult for some to tell that. Anyway the long and the short is that I now believe that I am a soft winter. I look great in black or charcoal with oyster, and think I'm Zyla's Antique winter... perhaps that is where you will find yourself too. Kind regards, L
